Papercraft Star Challenge #15

This week's challenge at Papercraft Star was to create a project based upon or inspired by one of the wonders of the world.  Living on the Gulf Coast and having so much of my family's heritage tied up in the industries connected with it, draws me to the ocean.  So . . . my choice of inspiration wasn't a hard one--the Great Barrier Reef.  My husband and I have collected shells on our visits to Florida and Puerto Rico and I have some from a trip to Grand Cayman.  That little orange shell in the front is less than 1/2" long, and I have some that I keep in a matchbox because they are less than 1/4"!  God is an amazing creator!!
My card is very simple in design.  Layering and a wonderful vintage image of a conch shell I found at The Graphics Fairy make up the majority of the card.  I used the beautiful Martha Stewart Daisy Fan deep edge punch and then put a layer of white cardstock under it to make the coral colors pop out a little more.  The shell image was painted with some Glimmer Mist and the edges of the paper were distressed and inked.  I added some pearls, the oceans gems, and some seam binding I formed into a bow and sprayed with Glimmer Mist.  The sentiment was stamped with a little $1 set of Studio G clear alphabet stamps from Michaels or Joanns.

Supplies

Paper:  Bazzill, Great White Cardstock
Stamps:  Studio G
Inks:  Versafine Vintage Sepia, Tea Dye Distress Ink, Vanilla Breeze and Old Lace Glimmer Mist
Tools:  Martha Stewart  Daisy Fan deep edge punch, Heidi Swapp edge distresser
Miscellaneous:  Hug Snug Seam Binding, Recollections and Paper Studio pearls

You can submit your projects up until 12:00 noon EST tomorrow at the Papercraft Star blog.  Make sure you come back later and cast your votes for your faves!  This weeks sponsor is Viola's Boutique.  Oh my gosh, if you haven't checked this little etsy store out by all means go and look!  She has some GORGEOUS crocheted flowers perfect for any card or layout.
Have a wonderful weekend!

It's a Fred, She Said Blog Hop!

Note:  This blog hop runs through October 7th at 12:00 midnight EDT!!!
Welcome to the Fred, She Said Designs Blog Hop!  If you came here from Anne's blog, then you're in the right place.  If not then you need to start at Tracey's blog.  Each stop on the blog hop will have a wonderful project for you to see AND a special word.  Make sure you visit each blog and collect all the words in the correct order so you can be eligible for the prizes.  Tracey's giving away $20.00 CAD worth of FSS goodies and a $20.00 gift certificate to the Crop Stop.

This is my first blog hop as a new member of the Fred, She Said Design Team and I'm so excited!  FSS is owned and operated by the incredibly talented Tracey Lynn Miller.  All you have to do is go take a peek at what's in the FSS store and you'll know what I mean.

We have an open theme for this hop so that you can get a look at the individual styles that make up the Design Team AND get a look at some of the incredible images Tracey has created.  We have some awesome designers on this team so make sure you see them all!

Anyone who has ever visited my blog before knows I am a FLOWER NUT!  I love to make my own paper flower embellishments and Tracey has several digital flower sets that make it so easy.  For my card I chose to use the Paper Roses and Leaves set and the Monarch Butterflies set.

The flowers and leaves can be printed out in sets or individually and you can resize them to fit whatever you're making.  Cut them out, add a little embossing and some ink, stack and glue and voilĂ !  You have a beautiful flower.  Both the flower and butterfly sets have SVG files for those of you who have digital cutting programs or you can cut by hand like I do.

Dont forget to visit ALL the blog hop stops and collect the special words in the correct order, and you'll find instructions at the last stop on how to e-mail the phrase to Tracey for your chance to win.
My special word is
"TO"
and your next stop is Sonya's blog.
It's not necessary to leave a comment but I'd love it if you would.  So get hopping and have fun!
Blessings,

The Lavender Lady

May I introduce you to the Lavender Lady.  Isn't she beautiful?  I got this image from Magic Moonlight.  Her dress was a little too pink originally so I tweaked her a bit in Photoshop.  She needed to be lavender for one of the challenges I entered.  I inked the pale lavender paper with Dusty Concord Distress Ink and used the same paper to make the flowers, inking their edges and misting them with water.  I'm really happy with the way this card turned out.  Thanks to Linda Robinson at City Crafters for the lovely sketch for this weeks challenge.
The card is being entered in the following challenges:

A Pocket Full of Posies #7--lavender and old lace

Papercraft Star Challenge #14

Time for another challenge at Papercraft Star and this week's challenge was a Simon Says recipe. This card was really simple to make. We were to score the mat 5 times at 1/4" intervals so I decided to do that in two different directions. Next, I embossed all that white space with an embossing folder. I inked and stacked punched flowers and added button centers along with some leaves made from a Fred, She Said Designs digital image set. Last but not least is some wrapped hemp cording with a little charm and a handwritten sentiment.

Supplies

Papers: Bazzill, Great White cardstock
Stamp: leaves from Fred, She Said Designs Dahlia's digital stamp set
Inks+: Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, Dried Marigold, and Peeled paint Distress Inks
Tools: EK Success daisy punches, Scor-pal, Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder
Miscellaneous: buttons, twine, charm

Submissions can be made through 12:00 p.m. EST Saturday at the Papercraft Star blog. We've had some great giveaways for our followers and Facebook peeps and we've got tons of awesome prizes lined up for the upcoming challenges. This week's prize sponsor is Sunnygrls Fun Shoppe! Don't forget to come back after the submissions are closed and cast your votes for your favorites.
Have a great weekend!

Just Inspirational DT, Challenge #13

Our challenge this week at Just Inspirational Challenges is a sketch challenge. The DT was also supplied with this fun little snowman image from Crafty Sentiments Designs, our sponsor for this weeks challenge.

I've colored him with my watercolour pencils and added a little sparkle here and there with some Stickles, Glossy Accents, and Diamond Dust covered Martha Stewart snowflakes. I added a few extra layers of paper to the sketch and did a LOT of distressing.
Normally I am a traditional green and red Christmas person, but I saw these papers at Hobby Lobby and knew my little guy was going to have a blue Christmas. (I know, bad joke). :)

Supplies

Paper: Great White cardstock, The Paper Studio
Stamp: Crafty Sentiments Designs Snowman and Broom
Inks+: Derwent Watercolour pencils, Inkadinkado Blending Chalks
Tools: Martha Stewart snowflake punch
Miscellaneous: Twinklets Diamond Dust, Crystal and Waterfall Stickles, Glossy Accents

Break out the rake!

I'm so ready for fall. It was so hot this summer I just hibernated inside in the air conditioner the whole time. I'm ready to get outside and plant some fall flowers in my planters and hubby's ready for me to pull some weeds and grass.
I made the following card with an old Mojo Monday sketch and one of the digis offered this week for the challenge at Digi Doodle Shop's Best. I colored it with Prismacolor pencils and OMS. I did some doodling around the frame of the image too. I loaded it with my handmade flowers and used some leaves from Fred, She Said Designs Paper Roses digi set. The kraft paper at the top was run through a paper crimper for texture. This one is being entered in a lot of challenges because one of the requirements for the Digi Doodle challenge was to enter you project in as many challenges as possible, plus . . . it's fun!

Papercraft Star Challenge #13

It seems like forever since I've made a scrapbook layout, but I had the opportunity to do it this week using Beth's great sketch for the challenge at Papercraft Star.
My family is very anti-personal photos on the net, so you won't find anything on my blog using pics of us. However, I am the official heirloom photo collector of both my family and my husbands' and I don't mind posting those. This layout uses some pictures of my grandmother that I believe were taken shortly before or after her marriage in 1938.
For my layout I made a title using some really cool paper. I found it at Michals and it's called Canvas Paper. It's literally like a piece of canvas for painting, but it's very flexible like a sheet of paper. I love the texture and inked it up with some distress ink. The letters were cut out using my Cricut and then layered onto white and then black cardstock, both of which were roughed up around the edges. I learned this technique a while back from an incredible crafter named Teresa Manchas. She has a tutorial for it on her blog Scrap This.
I added some chipboard pieces that I covered in paper, sanded, and inked. The banner is handcut. I don't have a single Cricut cart with a triangle shape on it. Drats! Anyway, the letters were stamped and embossed and I used my Crop-A-dile to punch holes to thread the string through. The string is just a piece I had leftover out of an office tag. The doily was cut to fit and it's edges were inked. I found these long rectangular ones at Dollar Tree. The flower at the top is actually three Prima flowers. Two are folded into quarters and glued into the center of the third.
At the bottom, I covered a chipboard heart in paper and then inked it. I then covered it with Versamark and UTEE. After about the third layer of UTEE I pressed a rubber stamp into the UTEE and let it cool. The flowers at the bottom are chipboard. I took a piece of white cardstock and ran it through a paper crimper in several different directions. It gave it a cool texture and then I inked them with Distress inks and misted them with water to meld the colors.
I've really had the itch to make a new mini album lately, and I even have the papers and some embellies bought for it already--My Mind's Eye Lost and Found. FABULOUS papers! Maybe I'll find a spare minute to get started on that.---ROFL!

Here's the list of supplies I used to make this page.

Paper: Bazill, My Mind's Eye Twenty-Ninth Street Market, Recollections and Great White cardstock, Strathmore Canvas paper
Stamps: Martha Stewart Alphabet clear stamps, Stampabilities Field of Flowers
Inks+: Weathered Wood, Shabby Shutters, Tumbled Glass, Frayed Burlap, and Vintage Photo Distress inks, Stazon Jet Black, Zing Clear embossing powder, Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel
Tools: Circut, Botanicals cartridge, Martha Stewart Layered Arches edge punch, Crop-A-dile, Fiskars Paper Crimper
Miscellaneous: chipboard pieces, Prima flowers, Making Memories ribbon and journaling tag, paper doilies, Michaels $1 bling

This project was a lot of fun and now I have another page finished to add to my heritage album. You have until 12:00 p.m. EST tomorrow to get your entry submitted at Papercraft Star. Hope you decided to play along with us this week. If not, we have a new challenge already scheduled for next week so you can start working on it now. We love to see our familiar regulars and all our brand new subsribers joining in the fun too!
Don't forget! If you aren't a follower of Papercraft Star, you can join now and be entered into a drawing for a $25.00 gift certificate to either Papertrey Ink or My Favorite Things. Just Inspirational Challege #12

I had mentioned the other day that I had a bit of news to share. Well, here it is. Out of the blue I was invited by the admin at Just Inspirational Challenges to join their Design Team! YAY! I love surprises! JIC has a weekly challenge on Thursdays and this is my first contribution as a member of the team. The challenge this week is to make a Christmas card. I just purchased this darling little Christmas Fairy Holly image from Mo's Digital Pencil and decided to use her. Isn't she adorable!
The card base is a step fold variation that I've never tried before. I really like the shape of it. The image is colored using a combination of Distress inks and Prisma colored pencils blended with OMS. Her dress flounce is covered with Diamond Stickles and the little snowglobe in her hand is covered in Glossy Accents. I added some TH Prima Poinsettias and some holiday trim I bought last year when all the Christmas goodies got marked down.

Supplies

Paper: Recollections card stock, Cloud 9 Designs, Making Memories, Great White cardstock
Stamp: Mo's Digital Pencil Christmas Fairy Holly
Inks+: Aged Mahogany, Wild Honey, and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink, Prisma colored pencils, Gemini Masterpiece Odorless Mineral Spirits, Glossy Accents, Diamond Stickles
Tools: Nestabilities Classic Ovals Large (S4-110) and Labels One (S4-161)
Miscellaneous: Tim Holtz Prima Christmas Poinsettias, Christmas trim

Pop out all your Christmas card making goodies and make something lovely to enter for this week's challenge.

Halloween Rosey

This little pup's name is Rosey and she is the second new fall release from Fred, She Said Designs. I guess I could have spookied her up a bit, but she's just so darn sweet I couldn't make her too evil. LOL She just made me think about little kids dressing up. Nothing evil there. hee hee
I used Prisma colored pencils and odorless mineral spirits to color her. Her hat was covered with Glossy Accents and then sprinkled with some superfine glitter. I wish it showed up better in the picture. It's really pretty. The glitter had a blue/black tone to it. There's also some Stickles glittering up the little punched border strip.
I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

Tracey has some new digi images at Fred, She Said Designs including this adorable set called Pumpkins and Sunflowers. I colored the image with Prisma colored pencils and odlorless mineral spirits. I couldn't resist adding a little dimension to the card so the two lower pumpkins and the front sunflower are all layered up with pop dots. There's some fun Vintage Photo Distress Stickles in the center of those sunflowers too. The gorgeous background papers are from the Moxxie Shades of Autumn collection that I just picked up at my lss.
This card qualifies for the following challenges this week:

It's still a work in progress so please bare with me. Oh yeah, I know at least one person was having trouble posting comments to my blog. If anyone else has experienced this please let me know.
I hope to have another card up (hopefully) tomorrow using another new FSS digi and some news to share.

Papercraft Star Challenge #12

This week's challenge at Papercraft Star was a photo inspiration challenge. The photo was of a French Press coffeemaker. Don't ask me how I know what that is, because I am NOT a coffee drinker. :) Yikes! All those groans I just heard were deafening. hee hee Sorry guys, but I just don't have a taste for the beans. However, I do like tea, so I decided to take my project in that direction.
The digital image is from KLM Digistamps. After I printed out the image I colored it with Prisma Colored pencils and used odorles mineral spirits to blend the pencil color. Then I covered the tea pot with Glossy Accents.

Supplies
Paper: Recollections cardstock, October Afternoon, white cardstock, DCWV
Stamp: KLM Digistamps Rose Tea Pot, sentiments were computer generated
Inks+: Tumbled Glass and Worn Lipstick Distress ink, Ranger Glossy Accents, Crytstal Stickles

Miscellaneous: Offray ribbon, Recollections Adhesive pearls

The link is open for submissions for this challenge until 12:00 p.m. EST Saturday, then voting begins. I see we have lots of new players this week and since I know all you coffee drinkers have the energy to make a card, come play along with us this week. :) The more the merrier! AND . . . there's a prize this week-- a year's membership to Your Paper Pantry, one of my favorite places to get together with other crafters.
Blessings,

A Fallish Mushroom

Here's another card I made during my "fun" labor Labor Day crafting time. I hope you guys aren't getting tired of all my layered cards cause this is another one. This cute little mushroom image is a free digi I found on a blog called Steady On. I layered the mushroom, butterflies, and flowers. I added a little real and a little faux stitching to this card. The coloring was done with Prisma colored pencils and odorless mineral spirits. I chalked around the image and there's even a little Vintage Photo Distress ink around the edges of the distressed kraft cardstock. I hit twelve layers with this card. LOL
Here are the challenges I'm entering it into:

Pile It On--layers
Paper Sundaes--two different coloring mediums
Friday Sketchers--sketch #118

You Can Stand Under My Umbrella

I know it's Labor Day and I'm supposed to be kicked back and relaxing, but to me crafting is relaxing so I had to do a little "fun" labor today. This little card is made using a digital image from Bugaboo Stamps and a Card Patterns Sketch. I thought this little umbrella was so sweet. It would be really cute for a shower card. I had so much fun doing that layered tulip card the other day that I decided to do a little layering on this card too. The umbrella and the flowers on the handle are all a second layer of paper on pop dots.
Here are the challenges I'm entering this card into:

I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!

Good morning everyone! I have some news today that I am so excited about. Last week I applied to the Design Team call that Tracey Lynn Miller put up over at Fred, She Said Digital Designs. Since I've only been making cards since this spring, I figured my chances were slim, but Tracey has asked me to be one of her new Design Team members! WOOHOO!!!
You all know I am a flower fanatic and I just love her digis because most of them are flowers and better yet, they are sheets of multiple flowers and leaves that can be cut out either by hand or with a SCAL or Make the Cut program for some files. I LOVE fussy cut work so these are right up my alley. I'll have more info coming up when I get filled in on all the DT details so be on the look out. Go check out her stuff with the link above.
This is my second post today so if you missed my DT project for Papercraft Star, you can find it here.
If you'd like to see some examples of the Fred, She Said digis Tracey has to offer, you can find a couple of examples of some I have used on my projects here and here.
It's Friday! Have a fantastic day!

Papercraft Star Challenge #11

It's Back to School time for all the kiddies, and some adults. :) We were asked to create a project to meet this theme this week at Papercraft Star using Cricut or other die cuts. I found this cute little clipboard cut on the Fabulous Finds cartridge and cut it out in Kraft and a fun chalkboard paper.
The note on the clipboard is a combination of two Meljen's Designs Digital stamps. The images are colored with Distress inks and then I added some Stickles and a little Triple Thick to make my apples shiny.

Supplies
Paper: Bazzill, Recollections Kraft, Provocraft, Canson Heavyweight Bristol paper
Stamps: Meljen's Designs from the Whimsy Stamps Store
Inks+: Fired Brick, Walnut Stain, Peeled Paint, and Spun Sugar Distress inks; Derwent Watercolor pencils; Xmas Red, Yellow, and Crystal Stickles; Signo White Gel pen; DecoArt Triple Thick brush on glaze
Tools: Cricut, EK Success Corner punch
Miscellaneous: Celebrate It ribbon

Don't forget to get your entries for this week's challenge in by noon tomorrow and come back and vote.
Thanks for stopping by!

Layered Tulips

I know I've been MIA this week. Been a little under the weather, but things are looking up and I'm back today with a card I made for the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge. This week they're asking for layers. I just counted eleven layers on this card so I think it will qualify. I know it's probably not in the style that they are looking for since this challenge is geared towards TH, Vecchi, G45, and 7 Gypsies, but I enjoyed making it anyway.

The beautiful tulip image is from Fred, She Said Digital Designs. I printed it out four times and then cut all the pieces apart so that I could layer them for dimension. The images are colored with Prisma colored pencils and blended with odorless mineral spirits. For the background I did a lot of layering and added some small brads that I colored with alcohol ink because I didn't have any that matched. This card was so much fun to make. Fussy cutting is a lot of work and time consuming , but the challenge of putting all those pieces together and having something with depth and dimension is so enjoyable.

Supplies
Paper: Recollections cardstock, white cardstock, My Mind's Eye
Stamp: Fred, She Said Tulip Trio Digi
Inks+: Prisma colored pencils, Gemini Masterpiece Odorless Mineral Spirits, Ranger Espresso Alcohol Ink, Inkadinkado Blending Chalks
Tools: Nestabilites Labels Eight (S5-019)
Miscellaneous: brads

Thanks for popping in!
