The Kraft Journal Challenge #4

Normally I steer well clear of yellow and orange, but they just needed to be on this card.  It's a "ground hog or furry little critters" challenge at The Kraft Journal.  Can't believe it's already time for ole Punxsuatawney Phil to pop his head out again!
For my card I've used a base mat and decorative mat of Kraft Outlet Brown Kraft cover weight cardstock.  The little kitty cat is a Penny Black stamp that I colored with Copic markers.  Bet you've got a cute furry critter in your stamp collection.  Mix it with some kraft paper or Kraft Outlet products and link it up for this week's challenge.  You have until 6:00 PM Sunday.  You just might grab a Top Three spot and you'll be in the running for a $20.00 voucher from the Kraft Outlet store.  Trust me, you won't have ANY trouble spending it. :-)
Can't wait to see your creations!

It's a Fred, She Said Valentine's Blog Hop!

Can you believe it's almost February already!  Well Fred, She Said Designs is going to start celebrating Valentine's Day early with a super fun Blog Hop!  There are some great prizes up for grabs for TWO lucky winners.

1.  a $25.00 gift certificate to the Fred, She Said store
and
2. a $25.00 gift certificate to CropStop

All you have to do is hop along through all of our lovely design team blogs, collect their secret word, and of course leave them some love.  At the last designer's blog you'll get instructions on what to do with the phrase you've collected.  The hop runs through midnight February 4th.
If you got here from Robin's blog then you're right on track.  If not then go back to the start at Tracey-Lynn's blog so you don't miss any of the words.

I'm using one of Tracey-Lynn's newest additions to the FSS store.  The roses on my card are one of  a set of pre-colored digital images called Hearts and Roses.  Aren't they pretty!  And they come in several colors!
I hand pieced the little trellis, printed out the roses, and cut them out.  I popped them onto the trellis with a few added little wire tendrils(recycled from a Wild Orchid mulberry rose).  All the papers are from a Prima Jack and Jill 6 x 6 paper pad.  I tore the solid paper in several places on the edges and then "patched" the holes with the polka dot paper.  I used my sewing machine to stitch between the rips and added some eyelets and hemp cord to the large tear.  The solid paper was a little TOO solid so I inked up a new splatter patterned rubber stamp I got on clearance at Mike's and added some Shabby Shutter distress inks splotchs.  Some pearly butterflies with wire antennae, more pearls, a pink fiber bow(it's not that neon IRL), and a sentiment from the digi set finish off the card.  Hope you liked it!
Are you ready for my secret word?

It's FILL

Your next stop on the hop is the very talented Danielle so pop on over there and see what she has in store.
     Happy Hopping!

Papercraft Star Challenge #30

Isn't she a cutie!  This is "Lily Bee" from Pink Cat Studio.  Pink Cat is our January sponsor at Papercraft Star.  Our challenge this week is to scrap lift one of the Design Team members.  I chose to case a card by Kim.  You can see her card right here.
The base of my card is Coordinations cardstock.  Next is a mat of Kraft Outlet cover weight kraft paper.  I ran it trough my printer for the sentiment and through my Cuttlebug for the embossing on the bottom.  I colored Lily with my Copic markers and trimmed around the image.  The seam binding was dyed with Black Soot Distress ink.  I dug around in my bead stash and created the two stick pins in the bow.  The little bee in the corner was enlarged off the sentiment and colored with Copics also.  The bee and Lily have Stickles on their wings.

Nikki Sivils is our sponsor this week.  As stated, Pink Cat Studio is our January Grand Prize sponsor.  Get those projects linked up by 12:00 noon EST Saturday for your chance at both of these prize packages and don't forget to come back and vote for your favorites.
     Happy Wednesday!

The Kraft Journal Challenge #3

It's an "anything goes" challenge this week at The Kraft Journal.  For a long time I've been needing some sort of journal or notebook to keep track of e-mail and snail mail addresses, and all those passwords and log in information we need when traveling about the web (especially when we're shopping!)

My project this week uses a 5 x 7 journal from Kraft Outlet.  I've decorated it using some GCD papers I recently purchased.  The journal itself in covered in smooth kraft paper.  I added another layer of inked kraft for my base and then added two layers of the GCD papers.  I painted some naked chipboard pieces with crackle paint and layered my initial on top of some Lunch Bag kraft cardstock that I inked and accented with some machine stitching.  The little corner decoration was cut with my latest Sizzix die purchase (on clearance at Mike's!).
I punched the center band of kraft cover weight cardstock out with a MS punch and matted it on some more of the DP.  On the bottom panel I tore the paper, rolled it back and secured it down with some small eyelets.  I then threaded some of the Kraft Outlet twill tape through the eyelets.
Then it was FLOWER TIME!  :-)  I cut each layer twice, once in Lunch Bag kraft text paper and once in the DP.  Each layer was smushed and inked then stacked.  The largest flower is sporting another new purchase, one of the new Recollections embellishment lines at Michael's.  I wanted my other flowers to match, but there was only the large size flower centers so I used some acrylic rhinestones and added some silver microbeads around them for my smaller flower centers.  The leaves were hand cut, scored, and inked using the Lunch Bag kraft cardstock.  The stems were made by dampening and twisting some thin strips of Lunch Bag kraft text paper.  Through the spine I threaded a length of waxed linen thread and added some silver beads.

For the inside of the book, I added a layer of kraft cardstock to the natural divisions in the book creating four sections.  I added a strip of the DP and also a page tab punched from the same DP.  Using alphabet stamps and some Vintage Sepia ink, I stamped headings for each section of my journal.  You can find direct links for all the Kraft Outlet products I used at the bottom of this post.
I hope you'll join us for this week's challenge.  Remember you MUST use kraft paper (doesn't have to be from Kraft Outlet) OR Kraft Outlet products on your creations to qualify for a weekly Top Three Designer spot and a chance to win a $20.00 voucher for the Kraft Outlet store in this months drawing.  The linky will remain open until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 30th.
Happy Monday!

Fred, She Said Pansies

This is a very simple card but I just thought the pansies needed to take center stage.  They are a digi stamp from Fred, She Said Designs called "Line of Pansies" and you can find it here in the Fred, She Said store.  Tracey just added some beautiful Valentine roses so take a look.
I have colored the pansies with Copic markers.  The card itself is a recessed window card.  With the black borders you might not be able to tell that from the picture.
Just a reminder, you have until 6:00 PM tomorrow to get your entries in for The Kraft Journal's "family" challenge.
     Have a great weekend!

Coordinations Cardstock giveaway

Coordinations cardstock and Ranger have teamed up to create two new sets of paper.

Click on the following link to enter for a chance to win one of 40 paper pads that they are giving away. http://pages.email.darice.com/core2/p?eKey=@1lSj4veF00F2dlg0XSgE
Don't forget to check out my blogaversary give away too.  The link is at the top of this page and on the top of the sidebar.  This is open to anyone who follows me.  That includes all my DT team mates.
I think I'm about to catch up with all my projects.  I lost all day Monday because I spent it with my best friend for her birthday.  Then I lost Tuesday because I spent it with a friend who was in town for a couple of days visiting.  It seems like every time I sat down at the computer to work on a project my Dad came over to do something on line.  Very unproductive crafty week and it's put a strain on my mojo.  I should have a new Fred, She Said card up tomorrow.  After I photographed it I didn't like the color ribbon I used so I'll trade that out and get that posted tomorrow.
     Have a wonderful weekend!

It's My Blogaversary Celebration!!!

I can hardly believe that it's been a whole year since I started my journey in this crazy world of blogging, but come February 4th that's just what it will be.  I've made some wonderful new friends, learned so much from so many of the fantastic crafters out there, been encouraged and tried to encourage, and totally enjoyed myself for every second of it.
I've been so blessed to be given the opportunity to design cards and projects for some awesome people.  Beth Moore and Kristina Harmon of Papercraft Star gave me my first shot as a Design Team member and I can't thank them enough for doing that.  It opened up a whole new world of blogging to me and allowed me to rub elbows with so many incredible artists.  Beth also blessed me with a second opportunity as a designer for the brand new Kraft Outlet challenge blog at The Kraft Journal.
Those of you who follow me know how much I love to make my own flowers and during one of my web surfing trips I discovered the beautiful digital stamp designs by Tracey Lynn Miller of Fred, She Said Designs.  Soon after, she was having a DT call and I applied, not expecting to make the team, but receiving a wonderful surprise when I did.  I had a similar experience when I applied for a DT position with the Digi Doodle Shop.  Judy is such a wonderful lady to design for and her mom draws such fantastic images.  I've had wonderful DT team mates for all these groups too.  Some are now some of my best bloggie buddies.
A big thanks to Kirsty Vittetoe and the DT girls at City Crafter.  Without their encouragement I don't know if I would have kept playing the challenge blogs.  I also want to thank Suzanne Czosek.  Suzanne is an incredible artist who has been published numerous times in Crafts and Things magazine as well as several others and she has made time in her busy schedule to drop by my little old blog and leave some encouragement quite often.
And last, but NOT least--to my bloggie friends (those of you who visit regularly)--YOU'RE THE BEST!!

As you can see I have TONS of people and opportunities to be thankful for this past year, so I thought it would only be fitting for me to give a little thanks back.  So that means. . .

Papercraft Star Challenge #29

I have to admit that color challenges are hard for me.  Most of the time they put colors together that I would NEVER put together.  This week's Papercraft Star pallette is no exception.  LOL  Funny thing happened though. The minute I saw those colors I immediately thought, "Hey!  I have those colors in alcohol ink."  I honestly did search through my hoard of papers and didn't have anything to fit the bill so I created my own papers using alcohol inks on Ranger Glossy paper.

The brown panel is really cool IRL.  It looks like wood grain.  The image is a sweet little digi stamp from Pink Cat Studio called "Lily Baked a Pie".  She's colored with Copics.  The sentiment is a freebie from Pink Cat who are sponsoring our Design Team this month.  I dressed up the card with a little pale blue bling and some seam binding I sprayed with Blue Skies Glimmer Mist.

Our sponsor this week is The Scrapbooking Cottage and they are offering a gift certificate.  Don't forget our monthly Grand Prize is being sponsored by Pink Cat Studio so link up your project before noon on Saturday so we can put your name in the draw AND check out your interpretation of this week's color challenge.

Have a great day!

The Kraft Journal Challenge #2

It's time for our second challenge at The Kraft Journal and this week we want you to create something based on our word of inspiration--FAMILY.
I am a family history nut.  I have a four drawer filing cabinet full of notes on my and my husband's family.  PLUS I have tubs of old documents and photos.  Everybody knows I love genealogy so I inherit a lot of stuff!  So I guess it goes without saying that when I saw the challenge word I automatically thought "YAY!  A reason to make a mini album."  LOL  So here it is.

The album itself is constructed out of Lunch Bag Kraft A2 Standard Envelopes from Kraft Outlet.  You can find direct store links to the products I've used at the end of this post.  My title is matted on Lunch Bag Kraft cardstock and I even made a Tim Holtz grunge rose out of some of it. (I need some more practice on these.) LOL  There are tons of punched flowers in this album.

I've chosen pictures for all my grandparents and great-grandparents for the album and I've given each one a page of their own except for a couple in the back.  For the men I've added a little photo of something relating to their occupation or something in their life and since ALL my ladies were flower lovers, they all got some pretties to decorate their pages.  Each page also has a label from a 1.0 x 1.5 Rectangular Brown Kraft label Sheet matted in black for their last name or maiden name initial.

I don't have a photo of my great-grandmother on my dad's side and I only had a photo of the other set of gg's together so these pages worked out a little differently, but that's okay.

I trimmed a sliver off the top of each of the envelope pages so that I could make big pockets out of them.  Each person has a tag with all their info on it.  I used the Lunch Bag Kraft Text paper for these.  There's another blank piece on the back for either more photos or more journaling.  I used a My Favorite Things Die-namics Notebook Edge die on the top of each sheet.  Doesn't it look cool!  I used Vintage Photo Distress ink ALL over this album and used a Sepia colored pen for all my journaling and the lines on each tag.  Gives it a great aged look.

This was just a quick run through of the album.  If you'd like to see a more detailed look you can check out my video for it on YouTube here.
So now it's your turn.  What will you come up with for our "family" challenge?  Remember to use kraft paper (we'd love for you to use Kraft Outlet paper but it's not a requirement) or Kraft Outlet products and link up your creation at The Kraft Journal blog.
Here is the list of supplies I used on this album.

Fred, She Said Designs "Catchin' Flakes"

We've hit in the low twenties here on the Gulf Coast several mornings this past week.  NOT usual weather for us.  It seems unfair that we got that cold but got no snow to go with it. Our last substantial snowfall was in 1993!  This little guy doesn't have my problem.  He's from the Fred, She Said Designs store.  I've colored him with Copic markers.

Have a great weekend!

Digi Doodle Shop's Best Challenge #42

Isn't this image just gorgeous!  The color combo of pink and green is the challenge this week at Digi Doodle Shop's Best.  Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers.  You can find this digital image here at the Digi Doodle Store.
I've used my Copic markers to color the image and added a little light green chalking around it for accent.  The fabulous paper backing it is from a Prima paper pad called Fairy Flora that I received as a wonderful surprise from my buddy Jan.  She did reeaallly good! :)  I was coloring the image when it came in the mail and the minute I set my eyes on it I knew it was the perfect background for my hydrangeas.
Get those pink and green lovelies linked up and you just might win a $10.00 voucher for the Digi Doodle Store!
Happy Thursday!

Tutorial for the The Kraft Journal challenge

Well peeps, it's the brand new kick off week for The Kraft Journal challenge blog.  Our fearless leader, Beth Moore, has waved her magic leader wand and tapped my shoulder to do the lead off tutorial for this new adventure.  A different member of the team will have a tutorial for you each week that will hopefully encourage those creative juices to flow.
This weeks challenge is to use flourishes.  I'm not sure what it is about adding that little swirly shape to a project, but it sure makes a difference.  For my tutorial I'm going to show you a couple of ways you can use these little gems on your projects.  You may have seen these before, but if you're like me it never hurts to have a refresher course.  I won't own up yet that my memory is failing, but I do have to admit that there's so much stuff rattling around in my brain that I can't keep track of everything.  My husband says the problem is that I'm preoccupied.  Can't imagine why he'd think that. :)
First off we're going to use some Kraft Outlet cardstock and a few supplies.  I'm using the #202 Lunchbag Kraft cardstock.  You'll need some flourish stamps, ink, scissors, whatever papercutting tools you use, a corner rounder, and gel and ink pens.

Choose your stamp and use a ruler to determine the height that your cardstock will need to be cut at.  Make sure you leave a little room around your stamp for a border.

Cut your cardstock square or rectangle out.  The length will depend on your project and how large you want your journaling square to be.

     Stamp your flourish image.

Use your scissors to cut a small outline border around the outside edge of your stamped image.  You can use a corner rounder or decorative corner punch on the other two corners if you want to.

Use a ruler to add lines to your journal spot.

Below you'll see the finished products.  I used brown and black ink pens and a white gel pen to do some faux stitching and doodling.  I threw in the flag image (you can find this on #398 Between Prim Friends Vol. 1 graphics CD at the Kraft Outlet store) just to show you that you don't have to use a flourish on this technique.  There are several different kraft papers in the store here and they would all work very well for this little extra.

Besides the cardstock, Kraft Outlet also carries chipboard.  The chipboard is a nice light weight,  perfect for cutting in the Cricut or Cuttlebug.  Nestabilities dies work great with it too.  In keeping with our flourish theme, I cut a few chipboard swirlies with my Cricut and used several finishes on them.

The first one is covered in Scribbles 3-D paint and Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel.

Let this dry over night and then hit it with your heat gun.  You'll get this really cool bubbled effect.  The second one is covered with Distress Crackle paint and the third is just inked with Distress ink.

The possibilities are endless--glitter, paint, designer paper, beads, flocking, Glossy Accents, embossing powder, bling--the sky's the limit and it's a great way to make an inexpensive "custom" made embellishment for your scrapbooking page, card, or any other papercrafting project you can dream up.
We hope you decide to join us for this inaugural challenge.  All you need to do is use a flourish on your project somewhere and of course some kraft paper or a Kraft Outlet product.  Easy peasy!  We don't require you to use Kraft Outlet kraft paper, but we think you'll love the quality of it if you give it a try.
Happy crafting!
