The Kraft Journal Challenge #8

"Cute as a button" is the theme this week at The Kraft Journal.  I've had these images for a while now.  I had won them in a challenge and this is the first time I've used them.  Aren't they cute!
I've used some Kraft Outlet Brown Kraft Cover Weight cardstock for the card base. All the designer paper pieces and image are matted with the same cardstock. The DP is from Cosmo Cricket's Wanted collection.
The buttons are handmade using three layers of punched Pre-cut Full Sheet Chipboard glued together and topped with another punch of the Brown Kraft Cover Weight paper. Their bows are Green Baker's Twine. I inked up a Small Kraft Shipping Tag to insert behind the image. I wanted the tag to match the DP so I just punched a small circle punch of the DP and glued it over the reinforcement to match the rest of the DP pieces and then a added a little Twill Tape into the hole in the tag.
I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Stampin' Sisters in Christ--at least three buttons
Curtain Call #71--color palette
Some Odd Girl--handmade element

Happy Monday!

A Vintage Lady

You have no idea how hard it has been for me to wait until today to make this card.  When this freebie image from A Day for Daisies was offered I knew there was no way I could NOT make a card with it.  I think she is just gorgeous!.  The sketch is from Friday Sketchers, unfortunately yesterday was the last day to use it for their challenge, but I just loved it and was going to use it regardless.
I've used  Basic Grey Curio papers.  I'm really hung up on peachy colors right now so I already knew what color I was going to use on my lady's clothing and I got lucky with the BG papers.
She is colored with Copic markers except for her hat.  This is my second attempt at paper piecing and I used some of the DP to make her hat.  The hat base is the same paper as the big peachy mat and the flowers from the same paper as the mat directly under the image.
I used my last little piece of this cool little metallic fiber to wrap around the image piece.  The large rose was originally white.  I sponged some Tattered Rose Distress ink on it and sprayed it with water.  The sentiment was kind of a surprise.  The top layer is the smallest Nestie from the new Lacey Circles.  This is the first time I've used the smallest die and I didn't realize that it doesn't cut the little half circles out like the rest of the dies in the set.  I carefully inked with Walnut Stain using the die for a mask and then popped the whole thing on a Nestie circle that I inked with the same color.
I'm really happy with how it came out.  The only thing I would change if I could would be to slide the flowered mat up just a tad so that more of the lace would show on the bottom.  Hope you like the card.
I'm entering it in the following challenges.

A Day For Daisies--very vintage
Southern Girls--brads, gems, dewdrops
Totally Papercrafts--paper piecing
Stamp Something--flowers
Do You Stack Up--anything goes

     Have a great weekend!

Your Paper Pantry Recipe Card Swap

Some of you may have noticd that I haven't been posting too many extra things the past couple of weeks.  It's because I have been working on a set of twelve recipe cards for a swap over at Your Paper Pantry.  I finally finished them up today and they'll go off in the mail tomorrow.
Our theme was soup/salad recipes.  I found the last few sheets of this Cosmo Cricket veggie paper at my LSS and used it for the matting on the front of the card.  I've glued everything onto some thin chipboard for stability.  I ran some kraft paper through my paper crimper, wrapped it with some baker's twine and popped a cute Nestie diecut on top to announce my "Soup of the Day".  The recipe card was printed out on my computer with a fun font, given a faux stitched edge with a pen, and attached to the base of the card with a paperclip.  The yellow circle paper was on the other side of the pea paper so I just used a punch to cut out the little circles and hot glued them onto the paperclip for a custom embellishment.
For the back side of the card I found some cute green swirly paper at Hobby Lobby.  It has some faux stitching too.  I found those cute seed pack images on line, printed out a ton of them and popped each one on top of a little piece of balsa wood for little garden stakes.  My dirt is just some brown paper raised up on pop dots to meet the height of the balsa wood.  I printed out the sentiment on my computer, cut all the letters apart, inked them and glued them on haphazardly for a fun sentiment.  The cute little bee 3-D sticker is from Mike's.  Our garden always has plenty of bugs.  LOL
Sigh . . . I love doing these swaps, but I put a ton of little things on here that took forever to put together.  I'm not complaining now.  That was totally my choice and I'd do it all again.  I hope my swap partners like the cards.
I hope to have a couple of extra cards up besides my DT projects this week, but I'm not making any promises.  Do you want to make God laugh?  Tell Him your plans for the day (or week).  LOL
Blessings!

Papercraft Star Challenge #34

This is our last week of Design Team Sponsorship by My Favorite Things at Papercraft Star.  The little tree and sentiment stamps I've used are part of the "Love Birds" set.  The tree was colored with Copic Markers.
I had some scraps left from some Dear Lizzy American Crafts papers I had used to make a mini album and among them was a sheet of sticky backed canvas.  It had this cute little multicolored banner on it so I cut it out to use on my card.
I'm so ready for spring!  It's my favorite time of year.  I love when everything turns all green and smells fresh.

For one more week our sponsor is Copic Markers.  They are also sponsoring our monthly Grand Prize so I hope you've been playing along this month for your chance to win.
Please note that we are changing the time frame of the challenge a bit.  The linky will stay open through 9:00 pm. An award for some friends

One of my sweet team mates on the Digi Doodle Shop's Best DT is Cathy at KraftyKoolKat. She passed along this cool award to me.  Thanks Cathy!

Near as I can understand liebster means "love", so this award is to show some blog love.  :-)  The aim of this award is to give it to 3-5 blogs you have visited that are relatively unknown(not with thousands of followers already) and bring them to light.  The three ladies I have chosen are so varied in their artistry, but I think you'll enjoy all of them.  Here are the terms for accepting the award:

1. If you have been tagged, do you want to accept? YES!!!! Then you have to create a post on your blog and post the love blog photo.

2. Link back to the person who gave you the award and say if you accept it.  You'll find Cathy's link above.

3. Choose 3-5 of your favourite blogs to tag, link these in your post too and tell the lucky people they have been tagged.

Here are the blogs I've chosen:

1.  Nancy

2.  Geri

3.  Dana

4.  Ira

Congrats on your awards ladies!  As always you are free to participate or not with this blog award.  I just want you to know you and your blogs are loved by me.  :-)

The Kraft Journal Challenge #7

Bling is the word for this week's challenge at The Kraft Journal.  For my card I've used an image from A Day for Daisies and colored it with my Copic markers.  She just made me think "bling" when I saw her.  Bet she's got a drawer full of costume jewelry in that little dressing table.  :-)
The image is layered on Brown Kraft Cover Weight cardstock and Buff Ivory Cover Weight cardstock with a little Bazzill and Anna Griffin paper thrown in the mix.  The bling buckle was cut from Kraft Outlet Pre-cut Chipboard, covered in gold embossing powder and blinged up with some pink acrylic rhinestones.  It's "tied" onto the card with some 7 Gypsies Victoria Seam Binding.
So break out all your fun little bling embellishments and some kraft cardstock or Kraft Outlet goodies and whip up a blingy card for this week's challenge at The Kraft Journal.  See ya there!
Blessings!

An enchanting fairy

For a long time I have been just crazy about Michelle Perkett's images.  They looked like they would be so much fun to color.  However, I didn't know if I was quite up to tackling one of those gorgeous images.  I just couldn't pass them up again when they went on sale the earlier part of this week, so I bought a couple and decided to give it a whirl.  Now I have no illusions about my coloring on this card.  LOL  I'll keep practicing.  I promise {grin}.  And by the way, it was WAY fun to color!
Michelle has a weekly challenge blog for cards made with her stamps called Michelle Perkett Studio Design Challenge Blog, and this week just happened to be an open challenge so I'm going to enter my little experiment.  I also used one of the sketches from Midnight Madness this week, so I'd like to enter it there also.
I probably should have made the card a little bigger.  It's a standard A2, which I very seldom make.  I like to have lots of room for embellishments, but, there it is.  I know the card base and mat for the image looks like it's black or brown but it's actually a dark olive green.
Hope you're having a good week.  Got to go finish making my daughters birthday dinner.
     Blessings!

Digi Doodle Shop's Best Challenge #47

It's "Anything Goes" time again at Digi Doodle Shop's Best.  For my card I have used one of the "Butterfly Scrolls" images from the Digi Doodle Store.  The set actually contains two different images.  I used my Copics to color the butterfly and the little flowers and added some pink bling rhinestones to the flowers centers.  I ruched up some pretty brown satin ribbon to add under the image.  The pink rhinestone brads on the tag look neon in this picture but they are actually very light colored.  I just hand wrote the sentiment.
Hope you join us for the challenge this week.  You can't get much easier than anything goes. :-)
     Blessings!

A Milestone Birthday card

Good grief!  Where does the time go?  My baby will be twenty years old tomorrow.  It just doesn't seem possible.  I could never have asked for a better child.  My hubby called me a few minutes ago and we were talking about her birthday.  He said, "Do you know how blessed we are?  She has never given me one night of troubled rest!"  It's true!  She's beautiful, smart, funny, and those who call her friend know they have a friend in deed.
You might think this is a strange choice for a twenty year old's birthday card, but you have to understand what a movie fanatic my girl is.  It's nothing for the two of us to walk around the house quoting movie scenes with each other.  Anne of Green Gables is one of her favorites.  I'm surprised she hasn't worn the movies out!  My girls a bit of a romantic (can't imagine where she gets that from?{grin})  So when I saw this image from Mo's Digital Pencil, I knew this was going to be her b-day card this year.
I used my Copics to color her.  I was really worried about the hair.  I didn't have any of the colors recommended for auburn hair, but in all actuality if you've read the books or watched the movie, Anne was called "carrots" by her future husband, so I wanted her hair to be more orangy that auburn.  I don't think it came out too bad.
I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

The Sweet Stop--sketch
Everybody Art Challenge--Recipe: 3 papers, 3 flowers and option ribbon
Ooh La La Creations Challege--for someone special
Pollycraft Monday--special birthday
The Southern Girls--blue and chocolate

Papercraft Star Challenge #33

When I saw these little Flapper lady bakers at My Favorite Things I just knew I had to make them mine and I knew I had to combine them with a recipe.  Well it just so happened that I signed up for a swap that I needed to make 16 recipe cards decorated in a vintage style.  This is what I came up with.
The front of the card is decorated with the Flapper cuties and some fun Valentine papers.  I had to add some stitching in there and some inking of course.
For the recipe I used some Lunchbag Kraft Text paper from Kraft Outlet.  It has the neatest texture.  I used a Notebook Edge Die-namics die from My Favorite Things for the top edge of the recipe card and then added lines with a sepia pen to continue the vintage look.  The card just slides into the front pocket.

The back of the card has a fun Martha Stewart punched heart and one of the sentiments from the stamp set.  There's also a little criss-cross pocket to hold any notes the person who receives the recipe might want to jot down.

This project required a "sweet' Valentine recipe.  So I sent a outrageous White Chocolate Bread Pudding recipe.  I've signed up for another one of these this month That calls for a soup or salad recipe.  Better start looking for some veggie papers.  LOL

Our sponsor this week is Copic markers.  YAY!  The linky will stay open until noon Saturday EST so come play at Papercraft Star!
     Happy Wednesday!

A card for friends

I needed to make some cards for some very special friends and this is what I came up with.  I'm using the Friday Sketchers sketch for this week and colors from The Play Date Cafe.
I stamped the music score on some French Vanilla Bazzill.  There's lots of layering and that pretty pink DP is Anna Griffin.  I made the little pink seam binding flower using a tutorial by my sweet friend Geri, at Paper Wishes.  You can find a link for it and one for how to make a rose too on her blog.  Take a look around while you're there.  She makes the most beautiful cards.
     I also used one of my new toys--a Spellbinders Lacey Circles die!  We have two Michaels near me.  The newer one, which is closer, is now carrying a great selection of Spellbinders dies but the other one has none.  Hmmmm?  Let's just say I didn't let that 50% off coupon go to waste today.  I don't think they have the Lacey Circles (I ordered that online), but they had the Lacey Squares (got that last week) and today I got some ribbon tag dies.  Can't wait to use those.  I'm still looking at a few other sets to add to my collection too.  I love dies.  Can you tell? {grin}
     Thanks for dropping by today!

The Kraft Journal Challenge #6

It's "Hip to be Square" week at The Kraft Journal challenge.  Bet that got you all singing that old Huey Lewis and the News song.  LOL
For my project this week I've created a card with lots of squares, faux quilting squares that is.  There was a great tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers this past week on how to make this card.  I have to admit I didn't vary much from the sample card, but I didn't want to cover up all the "quilting" so I kept the embellishments to a minimum.

The card base is the wonderful linen textured Buff Ivory coverweight cardstock from Kraft Outlet and mixed amid all the layering I also used Brown Kraft coverweight cardstock, and Lunch Bag Kraft cardstock.  I used some of the new Twill tape Babette is carrying in the store as well as one of the Round Metal Edge Grungy Prim Tags and a tiny bit of the 7 Gypsies Victoria Seam Binding for the bow embellishment.  I even used some of the extra string that came on the grungy tag to tie the little knots on my button trio.  Waste not want not.  LOL  I dug through my button stash and actually found a square one to add to the bow.  I ran the top of the base card and the "quilt" through the Cuttlebug in the Textile embossing folder to add the "quilting" to my quilt blocks.
It was an easy project to make although I did it twice.  I found that starting with laying down the middle square and working outwards with my quilt squares made for a much better fit.  maybe I'm just a crooked cutter though. :-)
So let us see how "square" you can be this week.  Remember you MUST use kraft cardstock on your project (not necessarily from Kraft Outlet) OR Kraft Outlet products to be eligible to win.  Maybe this week you'll be one of our Top Three and just maybe you'll be the lucky winner of the monthly $15.00 voucher prize!  Get your projects linked up by Sunday at 6:00 p.m. EST.
     Thanks for stopping by!

Time to vote, a little news, and an award to share

Hi all!
It's time to vote at Papercraft Star so hop over there and cast your votes for your top two favorites.  After that make sure you check out the next challenge coming up.  It's another sketch challenge so you can put on your thinking caps and be all ready for Wednesday when the link opens up.
In case you didn't know, Papercraft Star also has a Message Board.  We'd love for you to stop by and check it out.  There are lots and lots of categories on everything from Cricut, to Copics, to thought provoking questions on the Question of the Day board.  Ask a question or answer one.  We'd love to have you join in.
Tomorrow is the last day to sign up for my Blogaversary candy giveaway.  I'll be drawing a name on Monday.  This is totally open to all my Design Team team mates so if you haven't entered because you thought you shouldn't--you should! :-)  Thank you! Thanks you! to all my new subscribers.  I appreciate your support and words of encouragement.  I hope you can always find something here to inspire, help, or just make you smile.  As for my old followers--double ditto!  You've all made this such a wonderful year for me.
I rarely post about any recognition I get on my projects.  I just note it in the sidebar and march on along.  I feel really awkward about tooting my own horn, but I was really excited that the Valentine Book of Love got a Spotlight at City Crafter and a Top Three at Paper Sundaes.  I really loved making that project so that was a wonderful blessing to me and since so many of you liked it, I thought I'd share that bit of news.
Not only that, but I actually won something!  Not for a project, but in a drawing.  Most of you probably know who Chris Olsen is.  If you've entered ANY card challenges you've bound to have seen some of her projects.  That is one talented lady.  You can check out her work on her blog, Twinkles Glow with Stamps.  I won a set of Whimsy stamps there this week.  YAY!
Last but not least, my sweet friend Robyn of Injoy Stampin' with Robyn over in Ireland gave me a blog award.  Robyn was a huge encouragement to me when I first started making YouTube videos.  If you've never seen her work you should check out her YT channel injoystampin.  She makes the most beautiful mini albums and one of her other projects was recently featured on Wild Orchid Crafts store page.

For this award I'm supposed to give you eight random facts about myself and pass the award on to eight other "stylish" bloggers.  Let's see if I can come up with eight things I haven't already told you about myself.

  1. I went to college for accounting.  I got an associates degree and one of my professors got me a job at a jewelry store in the mall where I eventually became the office manager.  It was my first real job, and my last one, LOL, many many years ago.
  2. One of Robyns facts was that she loved a proper English accent.  So do I!  I certainly don't mind a Scottish or Aussie one either. LOL
  3. I talk to my dog--a lot! :-)  She's 12 years old now and I told my husband if anything happens to her I'm going to have to get another dog.  He said he didn't know about that, but I told him, "Honey, you don't realize how much I talk to that dog during the day!"  LOL  Maybe that's why she thinks she's a human???
  4. I'm sort of a closet crafter.  Only  a couple of my friends actually know about my blogging and YouTubing, and since they are not really computer people, have not seen either to my knowledge.  Some know I make cards and scrapbook, but not to what extent.
  5. In all honesty, I spend WAY too much time on my crafting habit. I've been trying to do better lately. It's just so easy to get caught up in the creative process. I love the challenge to my mind, but family needs to come first.
  6. My kitchen is decorated with chickens and roosters.  I am a born and bred country girl after all.
  7. I love old musicals.  Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby--incredible!  My daughter and I watch White Christmas every year together and if we get lucky enough to have a little time to spend together we love to watch others on TCM.  I like some of the non-musicals too like It Happened One Night with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.
  8. I would love to own a BMW, but my daughters boyfriend told me he'd have to stop dating her if I got such a snobby car for our community.  LOL
Well that was a mixed bag wasn't it!   LOL  Okay here are the ladies I'm passing this award on to.

  1. Jan at chai tea 'n me
  2. Dana at Dana's Inspirations
  3. Kim at Paper Loves Glue
  4. Linda at Lovely Linda's Craft Central!!
  5. Geri at Paper Wishes
  6. Lisa at What a Beautiful Mess
  7. Linda R. at My Happy Place!
  8. Kirsty at Handmade Little Things

It was hard to pick just eight of you cause I have such wonderfully talented friends.  I know some people don't really want to pass these things along or list the information so I'll leave that totally up to your discretion. :-)  My main purpose was to make you smile today.
Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!

A Peace Rose

For this card I've used the "Corner Rose" digital stamp set from Fred, She Said Designs.  I colored the image with my Copics and chalked around the image with some yellow.  The dark green frame is edged in Diamond Dust.  The pink mat was punched with a MS punch set and the nest layer of paper was chalked with yellow also.  I threaded some DMC Perle cotton thread through the holes in the punchwork.

I'd like to enter this card in the challenge at Phindy's Place--spring is on the way.
     Have a fantastic weekend!

Digi Doodle Shop's Best Challenge #46

This week's theme at Digi Doodle Shop's Best is "Nature".  For my card I've used the "Humming Bird" image from the Digi Doodle Store.  I colored it with Copic markers.

I hope you can see the shimmer on his feathers.  After I colored him I went over his feathers with Forever Green Perfect Pearls and it looks just like the shimmer on their wings.
I'm sure you've got something nature themed in your stash of stamps so let us see what you come up with.  You could win a $10.00 voucher from the Digi Doodle Store.
Blessings,

Papercraft Star Thursday Tutorial

It's my turn to bring this week's Papercraft Star tutorial. Faux stitching on cards and page layouts is a popular form of adding a little something extra. I've been using a piece of regular plastic canvas for a long time to make my straight row faux stitches, but you don't have to just stick to straight lines. You can find plastic canvas in several different shapes. For this tutorial I'm going to use a circle as my template.
Supplies you'll need include the plastic canvas template, your image or whatever you want to add the stitching to, a paper piercer, some masking tape (scotch tape doesn't stick to the plastic very well), an old mouse pad (excuse my grungy one), and a detailing pen if you want to add "thread" between your stitches.

Find the circle width you need, center your paper piece, and tape it to the back of the plastic canvas template.

Turn the piece over and using your paper piercer poke holes in whichever row of the template that you want your stitching in. An old mouse pad really comes in handy for this technique.

Voila'! You have a nice neat even row of faux stitches around your circle.

If you want to add thread, just use a fine line marker to draw in between each hole that you pierced.

Hope you found this tip useful. You can find the plastic canvas in a heart shape and hexagon among others.
     Happy crafting!

Kraft Outlet "Book of Love" Tutorial

This week it's my turn at The Kraft Journal to post a tutorial.  Earlier in the week I posted my Valentine Book of Love here on my blog.  For todays tutorial I'm going to  show you how to make the faux book card.
You may have seen these while surfing.  I love unique folds and card shapes and this one just grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let go!  I got the basis for my pattern from a very talented Norwegian lady named Wenche.  You can find her tutorial for this card here.  I was so excited when I found the tutorial.  Unfortunately, Google's translator left a little to be desired with the instructions.  I know that my card is probably not in scale with hers, but that's the beauty of it.  You can alter the measurements to suit your own needs.
For my card I cut two pieces of the yummy linen textured Buff Ivory Cover weight cardstock from the Kraft Outlet store at 6 3/4' x 9" and two at 5 1/4" x 9".  All four pieces are scored at 3/4" intervals on the 9" side.  Note:  a wonderful Norwegian lady named Anne, graciously offered to translate the original instructions for me.  To make the "pages" correctly, you would actually turn the paper over after the first scoring and score inbetween the 3/4" scores.  The only difference this makes is that you'll have more folds or "pages".  Totally up to you.

After you have all your pieces cut and scored, accordion fold the pieces.  Tip:  the neater and more precise you make your folds the nicer the page edges will look.  For my project I inked the mountain folds of all four pieces with Vintage Photo Distress ink.  After inking you need to "marry" one of the long and one of the short pieces.  It's easier to get this process started by putting the two pieces together at an angle.  The folds will naturally seek out their partners.

After the two pieces have gotten hitched you can straighten them and make the corners flush.  Just gently work the paper until you have a tight fit.

To hold the sections together you need to add adhesive to the outside flap.  Make sure you glue ONLY  THE OUTSIDE corner.  You want your pages to be loose and flexible.  You'll find when you finish that you can actually play a little with the volume of the pages by either pulling out or smashing them in .  Try to keep your two pieces as perpendicular as possible.  You want your pages to be square not wonky.

Here's what the finished "box" looks like.  Tip:  Make sure you match your accordion section sides.  For instance on mine, you can see that the outside flap of the two long sides of the box are on top in the corners.

You'll need a cover for your book card.  I've used a 12" x 12" piece of kraft paper cut to 7 1/4" x 12".  I left a 1" spine in the center.  I believe Wenche's was maybe 2"?  I can't convert Metric in my head plus the translation on the measurements was clear as mud.  Regardless, her projects are incredibly beautiful and I muddled through with my own measurements.   The box will sit on the right hand side of the card, flush up against the 6 1/2" score line.  If you want a mat under your box make sure you attach it to your page before you attach your box.

You can use this for a gift box anytime.  Chocolates for Valentines.  A mini album.  A special gift.  Whatevah!
You can get a complete supply list for the finished project here on my blog and you can watch my video here and actually watch me put the pieces together and see the completed project cover to cover.  My finished project uses several other products from Kraft Outlet like the Brown Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock,  Lunch Bag Kraft Text Paper,  Precut Chipboard Full Sheet, 7 Gypsies Victoria Seam Binding.and some fun  Gold Scratch Off Stickers.
Hope you like the project and give it a try.
